The Queen Lion finally stands up for herself

When we first brought Pumpkin home she was the lone cat and queen of the castle. She had anything she wanted, any time she wanted. One of her favorite luxuries was drinking from the water bowl when it was cold and fresh.

That changed the day Jack arrived. He was half her size at the time and I firmly believed Pumpkin would show him who was boss. So I was surprised when this scrawny pipsqueak cut her off at the water bowl. She was clearly annoyed and made some half hearted swats at his butt. He ignored her and lapped up the fresh cold goodness for himself.

Then three more boys showed up and we officially had a lion’s den. It was a little bizarre to watch the laws of the jungle play out on our kitchen floor. When it came to feeding time, the males would all dive in while Pumpkin would watch from a safe distance. Only when they had their fill of would she tentatively approach for her share of kibble or water.

This morning though, she decided enough was enough. I gave the kitties some fresh cold water. Pumpkin and Jack approached the bowl at the same time. Pumpkin sat down, curled her tail around the bowl, stared at Jack and growled! Jack slinked off in defeat as Pumpkin enjoyed her morning water in peace.

I said to Mr. Baby Cat “Did you see that?!” He stared back at me because cats can’t talk.

I was very proud of Pumpkin though. Long live The Queen baby! Long live The Queen!
